The lifeguard is responsible for the supervision of pool patrons during assigned times for open swimming, Physical Education and Outdoor Education courses, wellness and fitness courses, and physical therapy. The lifeguard must respond to emergency situations, which include administration of First Aid, CPR, Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) and recognize when more advanced care and emergency care needs to be summoned. Open, supervise, and secure swimming pool areas before, during, and after swimming periods. Assist the Associate Director of Physical Education in scheduling, supervising, and training student lifeguards. Teach Physical Education Swimming classes during the scheduled workday. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Pay range: $19.50- $20.00
Success Factors:
- Ability to be dependable- the pool cannot open without the lifeguard present.
- Ability to stay on track and be timely- the schedule is back-to-back in the pools, especially with PE classes.
- An organized and responsible individual- the lifeguard is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all patrons. They must be first responders, provide care, and manage emergencies until CUEMS or Bang's Ambulance arrives.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Red Cross CPRFPR and AED Provider - requires yearly re-certification in NY state.
- Red Cross Lifeguarding Provider - requires re-certification every two years.
- 1-2 years of experience.
- Must be able to think and respond quickly to emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR/AED Instructor - requires re-certification every other year.
