Summary Position Campus Recreation & Wellness provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The assistant director is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and provides of fitness programs, including group exercise and personal training, and management of two pools.

Education Requirements Completed masters degree in higher education, exercise science/physiology, recreation, health, physical education, or related field and 1-2 years experience (including part-time or graduate assistantships) in fitness or aquatics is preferred. Bachelors degree required and 1-2 years of post-bachelors experience required.

General Purpose of Position The assistant director provides daily management of fitness programs, including group exercise and personal training, and management of a pool.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the administration of a comprehensive group exercise program, which includes more than 25 classes a week during the academic year
Supervise a personal training program that includes student, faculty, and staff clients
Manage the daily operations of an indoor pool, outdoor seasonal pool, and outdoor fitness court
Work collaboratively with colleagues in Campus Recreation & Wellness and the Division of Student Life to provide quality recreational and developmental experiences for students
Supervise and evaluate student employees in programmatic areas of oversight
Work with Faculty/Staff Wellness to deliver faculty and staff fitness programs, such as exercise classes and personal training reimbursements
Plan and develop fitness-related special events and assist in the planning and implementation of other fitness/wellness events and outreach programs
Assist the associate director in purchasing equipment for three campus fitness centers
Collaborate with various campus departments to promote engagement in healthy activities and programs for students
Assist in the development and management of program budgets
Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities
Foster positive relationships on and off campus to promote Campus Recreation & Wellness
Continuously assess programs, policies, and processes to improve overall program quality
Serve on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees and work groups as assigned
Assist in the development and implementation of the Campus Recreation & Wellness strategic plan and departmental/divisional/institutional priorities
Serve on a Student Life emergency response team and assist with divisional events as assigned
May include occasional evening and weekend work requirements
Other duties and projects as assigned
Education and Experience Required qualifications include:
Completed bachelors degree and 1-2 years post-bachelors experience administering group exercise and/or personal training and/or aquatics programs
National personal training and/or primary group exercise and/or yoga certification
Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid
Valid drivers license
Certified Pool Operator license (required within 90 days of start date)
Preferred qualifications include:
Masters degree in higher education, exercise science/physiology, recreation, health, physical education, or related field
Personal training and/or primary group exercise instructor certification
American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid instructor certification
American Red Cross lifeguard instructor certification
