What You’ll Be Doing:
Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, the Aquatics Coordinator will supervise a FULLY STAFFED aquatics team of 45 lifeguards between two pool locations. The Aquatics Coordinator will oversee all aquatics programming including swim lessons, private lessons, recreational activities, and local school team schedules.

- Manage the daily operations, cleanliness, and maintenance of the pool and pump room.
- Reviews inspects, and ensures routine maintenance for facilities, equipment, and operations for safety hazards and other potential problems.
- Coordinate, manage, and lead all aquatics operations and maintenance (including annual shutdown), pool area improvements, and capital improvement projects.
- Interprets, communicates, and enforces all Department, District, County, State, and Federal policies, and procedures within areas of program responsibility pertaining to the health and safety of public swimming pools, steam rooms, and hot tubs.
- Plan, supervise and winterize seasonal aquatic facilities.
- Acts as the Manager on Duty as needed.
- Execute emergency and non-emergency situational management in a composed manner using sound judgment.
- Ability to work with a variety of age groups; effectively supervise the work of a variety of individuals.
- With assistance from the Recreation Manager, recruits, interviews, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, evaluates, develops, and disciplines staff, to ensure safe and effective services.
- Conduct staff meetings and administer monthly in-service training and skills checks.
- Maintain risk management standards to include certification, monthly in-service
training, red cap drills, and accident/incident report tracking.
- Submit bi-weekly payroll by established deadlines, verify accurate timesheet entries, and adjusts entries as needed.
- Coordinate and/or instructs various classes including swim lessons, Lifeguard and WSI trainings, CPR, AED and First Aid classes for patrons and District employees along with program registrations.
- Create and edits program area information for seasonal activities guide, promotional materials and registration software.
- Promote programs utilizing outreach, engagement and promotion to increase community interest.
- Analyze trends, evaluate changing community needs, and make recommendations to improve operations and expand program participation.
- Communicate openly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, participants, parent, volunteers, contractors, and other community members
- Analyze, forecast, prepare, and monitor budgets and financial information with the assistance of the Recreation Manager.
- Assists with special projects and special events on behalf of the District as needed and assigned.
- Provides excellent customer service in a timely manner.
- Proficient knowledge of current principles, practices, trends and methods of municipal aquatics program planning, policies, procedures, development, implementation, promotion and coordination.
- Possess the ability to negotiate, prepare and oversee contracts.
- Have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Have the ability to exercise initiative; make sound, independent, and timely decisions; and apply knowledge, data and common sense to solve routine and non-routine problems.
- Negotiate, prepare, and adhere to contractual agreements and oversee contracted activities, including intergovernmental joint use agreements.
- Complete all required safety trainings in a timely manner and ensure staff compliance.
- Model appropriate behaviors and handle complaints and disciplinary problems involving patrons or staff in a professional manner and adhering to district policies and procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, peers, Town/City staff, other agencies, community representatives, and the public.
- Proficient knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operation, and techniques used in an aquatics recreation program and to be able to identify and/or recommend maintenance, improvements or repairs.
- Practice proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to help prevent accidents
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Liberal Arts, or closely related field. Progressively responsible related experience may be used on a year-for-year basis to satisfy the bachelor’s degree requirement.
- Lifeguarding/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or similar certification through a nationally accredited organization.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
- Two years of programming and staff management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPO or AFO Certification
- Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT)
- Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certification (LGIT)
Working Conditions:
- This position requires a high level of physical ability including standing for long periods, bending, reaching, lifting, jumping, walking, stretching, swimming, etc. Most duties are performed in an indoor/outdoor aquatic setting during typical CVPRD operating hours. This position will work closely with customers of varying ages and abilities and will need to accommodate the public accordingly.
- Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body).
