St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Head Swimming and Diving Coach and Aquatics Director. This position is responsible for all aspects of the intercollegiate men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs and successful management of the aquatics facility.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Coach men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs entailing approximately 40-50 student athletes. Coach approximately 10-15 meets/swim events per year. - 30%
- Recruit student-athletes for both the men’s and women’s programs. Visit high schools and talk with students, parents, and coaches. Attend swimming and diving meets. - 20%
- Daily supervision of aquatic program/facility, including routine and preventive maintenance of pool facilities maintaining a safe environment for all facility users. - 20%
- Hire, train, schedule lifeguards and other workers for aquatics program and facilities. - 15%
- Manage SNC Camps, clinics, and fundraisers for the swimming & diving program. Responsible for managing and tracking budget dollars for swimming programs and aquatics center. - 10%
- Teach one physical education course per year. - 5%
- Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.
Supervision Exercised Over:
- 2-3 Part-time Assistant swimming coaches or volunteers - 8-10 lifeguards Working Conditions - Ability to work evenings and weekends is a must. Travel is required with this position with the team for competition as well as for recruiting. A good driving record is a must. Large percentage of the workday is within the aquatics facility. This position will most likely have frequent interruptions. Therefore, a pleasant disposition and the ability to multi-task is helpful.

Physical requirements are similar to that of an office position with occasional lifting up to 10 lbs.. Routine maintenance of pool will require limited lifting of liquids. Evening and weekend hours along with travel are requirements of the position.

Education -
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience and Credentials -
- 2-5 years as a head high school swimming & diving coach or head club swim coach, or
- 2-4 years as a college assistant swimming & diving coach, or
- 1-3 years as a college head swimming & diving coach
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) course completion, preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
- Knowledge of aquatic facility scheduling programs to maintain a daily, organized facility
- Ability to be a self-starter and not afraid of working independently
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and not be flustered if things sometimes get “sideways”
- Knowledge and skills to recruit competitive, collegiate-level swimmers
- Ability to recruit competitive, collegiate swimmers in the D-III model of year-round recruiting
- Ability to create practice plans which result in student-athletes realizing their maximum effort at the conclusion of season
- Ability to motivate, mentor and serve as a role-model to college-aged student-athletes
- Ability to fundraise to support the swim teams for budget-enhancing items
- Skilled at coaching college or high school students
