Brief Summary of Work for this position:
The Assistant Director of Fitness and Aquatics is responsible for the overall planning, assessment and coordination of all fitness and aquatics programming, and supports the associate director related to the vision and planning of all Campus Recreation (CR) wellbeing functions.
This position provides oversite for 20,000 square feet of fitness space, three group fitness studios, and programming schedules. Also:
- Serves as the aquatic pool operator at the Student Recreation Center (SRC) responsible for the overall planning and operation, maintenance, assessment and risk management of both indoor and outdoor pools
- Supervises the fitness coordinator, aquatics coordinator, graduate assistant and undergraduate staff in both aquatics and fitness
- Assists with special event coordination
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Master's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science/Physiology or related field with a minimum of 2-4 years of directly related experience in collegiate recreation, aquatics programming, and/or recreation programming, OR a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science/Physiology or related field and 3-5 years of directly related experience in collegiate recreation, aquatics programming, and/or recreation programming, is required. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Supervisory or related transferable skills required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience :
- Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
- Professional and student personnel supervision at the collegiate recreation level; including aquatic facility maintenance and programming
- Aquatic programming and maintenance experience
- Personal training and group fitness instruction experience
- Implementation and management of group fitness programs, personal training and wellness programs
- Management and supervision of all related fitness equipment and spaces
Required Certifications or Licensure:
CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSURE REQUIRED*
- American Red Cross Instructor training for First Aid, CPR/AED, Blood borne Pathogen
- Nationally Recognized Certification – Group Fitness (ACE, AFAA, etc.)
- Nationally Recognized Certification – Personal Training (ACE, ACSM, NASM, etc.)
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer
- Certified Pool Operator
