Under the supervision of the Assistant Director-Aquatics Personnel, Programs, and Events directly supervises 100-120 student employees, assists with all aspects of day-to-day operations of the Aquatic Center which consists of five pools and two spas, open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and associated events for Student Life Rec Sports and Athletics including: recruiting, hiring, training, certifying, scheduling, supervising, retaining, developing, and evaluating student staff (Lifeguards, Crew Chiefs, Aquatic Facility Coordinators); assures the safe conduct of aquatic programs, appropriate facility coverage, reporting of maintenance and housekeeping issues, and adherence to building policies and procedures; provides professional staff presence during specified times including morning, evening, and weekend hours; directs student staff activities; provides guidance and oversight to student leadership staff with hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of student staff; performs administrative tasks including report management, inventory control and payroll; monitor facility incident and accident reports, address areas of concern; maintains appropriate records; assists with special events as directed by aquatic leadership; provides input and delivers facets of annual, semester, and weekly training and in-service opportunities for staff; identifies, supports and assists in the completion of facility cleaning responsibilities; oversees assigned special projects assists with pool operations including water circulation, chemical delivery and filtration as directed; establishes, maintains and promotes good public relations; attends scheduled meetings and provides leadership; other duties as assigned. While a base work schedule will be established, shift times are variable and work schedule will require a combination of early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on staffing levels and activity demands; the position will require the employee to be available to staff throughout the day as well as during off-peak hours through electronic communication; this role will often require the employee to work more than 40 hours per week (shift differential and overtime pay will be provided).

Percentage of Duties
55% Staff Scheduling and Communications: Ensure that pools are staffed in accordance with state and local health standards. Coordinate the inflow of new hires, collect availabilities, monitor staff needs, address Schedule Adjust Requests and personnel issues, ensure a full schedule for smooth operation of daily activities.
20% Staff Development: Assist in facilitation of student leader group meetings to ensure staff is prepared and can provide a safe aquatic environment. Guide in-service and skills check content and ensure staff participation. Be present on the pool deck to observe, guide and support staff for safe operations. Lead staff training and certification as needed.
20% Administrative Support: Workday action items including posting of positions, hiring and ensuring proper pay rates, review of staff hours, payroll completion and audits. Ensure report completion.
5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification; experience with Microsoft Office Suite Applications; obtain Lifeguard Instructor certification (within six months of hire)
Desired: Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in a management capacity with staff scheduling responsibilities; experience in a recreational sports setting; experience with support of competitive aquatic activities; Certified Pool Operator certification, Lifeguard Instructor and Instructor Trainer Certification; strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to successfully navigate a high volume of staff communications; ability to work as part of a team.
