The department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking two highly motivated aquatic professionals to join our team! The Recreation Senior Specialist positions are vital to the safe aquatic operations of two of our facilities, the Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Center or Northern Virginia’s largest waterpark, Splashdown Waterpark. We are looking for two safety-first minded managers with the soft skills to build relationships with all levels of our organization. ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Senior Aquatic Specialists are responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of aquatics services at the Chinn Aquatic and Fitness Center or Splashdown Waterpark. The main charge for these positions is to oversee all aquatic operations at the facility while maintaining the highest level of safety standards. This requires regular assessment of practices, processes, and systems for maximum efficiency and working collaboratively with staff to implement strategic changes.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Requirement:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of related experience (supervising aquatic teams including but not limited to lifeguards, pool operators and water safety instructors or equivalent).

- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Business Management/Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- +5 years of experience in supervising aquatic teams to include lifeguards, pool operators, and water safety instructors
- +5 years of supervisory experience.
- +3 years of as a Water Safety instructor and certified.
- +3 years of pool operator experience and certified.
- Valid CPO or AFO certification.
- Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor License.
- Proven experience in leading, training and recruiting aquatic staff.
- Experience in site operations.
- Experience in pump room operations.
- Experience overseeing aquatic programs.
- Experience scheduling groups for the pool, either recreational or program, providing contracts and invoicing.
- Experience with overseeing a budget.
- Experience interpreting financial reports, program reports, and provide recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills demonstrating an ability to provide clear and supportive oral and written advice while maintaining positive communication channels with all site staff.
- Ability to lead the staff in a strong and cohesive team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Typical schedule varies based on operational needs, typically is between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday-Friday, with some weekend and holiday work required based on operational and event schedules AND on-call schedule. This position is classified as exempt and can adjust hours to meet operational needs. A portion of on-call time is subject to additional compensation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lifeguard Certification.
- First aid certification.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Criminal background checks.
- Fingerprinting may be required.
