The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The Aquatics Manager is responsible for the supervision of the pool, boating program and lifeguard management, including skills trainings. The Aquatics Manager will live on camp and serve as a cabin counselor for the duration of the summer camp season.
Duration
The summer camp season includes one Camp Leadership week beginning June 19 and one week of mandatory, staff training from June 26 through July 1 and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday at 11:00 AM to Friday at 6:00 PM. Specific dates camp is in operation are July 3rd through August 12th. The Aquatics Manager will remain on camp until August 14th to assist in the closing of the camp facility, and oversee the proper storage of all supplies and materials for the pool with assistance from the Pool Operator.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Oversee all the operations of the pool in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan approved by the New York State Department of Health
- Conduct swim assessments of campers or staff prior to their participation in any pool activities
- Provide leadership for swimming classes
- Provide leadership and supervision for staff and campers during swimming programs
- Train additional camp staff in appropriate pool monitoring behaviors including proper usage of the Buddy Board
- Conduct water testing daily, with the Pool Operator to monitor water quality and close the pool when water quality is not within the state mandated guidelines
- Coordinate daily maintenance of pool including tidying up the pool deck and a monitoring of pool vacuuming schedule
- Record and notify Health Manager of any injury occurring at pool or waterfront
- Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.

Required Qualifications:
- 21 years of age or older
- Experience working with youth in an outdoor camp setting
- Current Lifeguard Management Certificate by American Red Cross
- Current Lifeguard Certificate
- Current First Aid Responding to Emergencies and CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Current Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
- Ability to supervise and organize youth and adults
Some physical requirements of this position could be endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, running, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, cold, rain, sun, and other varying weather conditions, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
