Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Aquatic Manager, the candidate will ensure the safety of patrons in and around the pool facility.
PRIMARY DUTIES (may include, but are not limited to):
- Supervision of patrons
- Assist in the implementation of swimming programs
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations, as well as state health and safety laws
- Respond to emergency situations; administer first aid and primary care as needed, and complete accident/incident forms
- Conduct public relations; offer program information, handle or refer public complaints,
- Attend and participate in all in-service training sessions
- Report all pool repairs and hazards
- Inventory and maintain equipment and supplies
- Maintain pool deck and guard areas in a clean and orderly fashion
- Remove and replace pool covers, as assigned
- Move bulkhead and lane lines to meet long/short course pool requirements
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES
90% Patron Safety
Duties/Responsibilities: Monitor activities in and near the water through patron surveillance. Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Enforce facility rules and regulations and educate patrons about them. Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies. Administer first aid and CPR/AED when needed.
5% Cleaning/Disinfecting
Duties/Responsibilities: Clean and disinfect all materials and high touch points on a regular basis throughout the shift.
5% Staff Training
Duties/Responsibilities: Attend and complete all monthly staff training (virtual and in person).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Lifeguard and Water Safety Training with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid Training/Certification
- American Red Cross Advanced Life Saving Certificate
- Ability to think critically and act quickly and decisively when observing potential distress in the aquatic environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of employees, including other lifeguards, facility staff, and management
- Ability to work independently to complete functions of the job
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact courteously with patrons
Preferred Qualifications
- Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid for Public Safety Personnel Certification
- EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Certification
- Previous lifeguard experience
Special Conditions
- Candidate must be currently certified in Lifeguard Training/CPR/AED and First Aid in order to be eligible for the position.
- Ability to work a variable schedule.
- Ability to perform essential physical job functions, with or without accommodation, that may require sitting, standing, swimming, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, carrying, hearing, and seeing.
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Selected candidate will be required to wear proper lifeguard attire (red and white uniforms).
- Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
