The mission of 4-H Camp Wyomoco is to provide youth with a unique, fun outdoor experience under the guidance of positive role models, emphasizing positive social interaction, environmental awareness and skill building. 4-H Camp Wyomoco is fully owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County. Summary Under the direction of the Leadership Team the Waterfront Director will be responsible for general day-to-day delivery and organization of all waterfront programming. Waterfront Director is also responsible for the management of the pond, waterfront staff, and equipment including but not limited to life guard equipment, boats, life jackets, beach area, teaching tools, recreational equipment. Camp Wyomoco has a 3 acre pond and both canoes and kayaks. This position will also play a role in the leadership of the staff as a whole; maintaining morale, positive lines of communication, and finding teaching moments for continuous staff and camper growth. This is a residential camp and staff is required to live on camp property during sessions. Physical requirements include bending, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, running, and swimming. Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity required to manipulate waterfront equipment, boats and waterfront activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and communicate with staff and campers. Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must operate with daily exposure to the cold, heat, rain, sun, and varying other weather conditions, as well as under irregular working hours in a camp environment. Duration The summer camp season is anticipated to include pre-camp training (beginning June 23, 2021) plus 6 weeks of residential camp (July 4 - August 13, 2021) running from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Essential Functions Program Responsibilities - Plan, direct, and supervise safe, instructional and fun boating and swimming programs.
- Write lesson plans that meet overall camp and program goals.
- Evaluate swimming abilities of campers and staff.
- Deliver creative waterfront program activities.
- Set daily and session schedules for the aquatics program.
- Train and supervise lifeguard team.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
- Train waterfront staff and general staff in their responsibilities when any water activities are happening.
- Schedule and supervise Waterfront staff and lifeguards to provide a safe and high-quality program.
- Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the waterfront program area
- Set up waterfront area prior to and during staff training, including setting ropes to mark the swimming area.
- Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
- Manage daily lifeguard schedules and duties.
- Conduct initial, mid-season and end-of-season inventory.
- Check equipment before use and make (or request) repairs and record in log book.
- Perform water clarity checks before each swimming session.
- Submit orders for equipment and supplies by established deadlines ensuring timely arrival of materials.
- Assist in packing all materials and supplies at the end of the season.
- Participate fully and enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
- Help maintain order during all camp activities.
- Work effectively with the entire staff team, regardless of backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Provide all necessary records, attendance data, lesson plans, and other items as required by the designated deadlines.
- Assist with solving problems and resolve conflicts that arise utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
- Participate as a member of the camp team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Assist in the planning, organization, and facilitation of theme days, special events, and rainy day events.
- Assist leadership team and staff with effectively handling inappropriate behavior and recognizing hazard situations.
- Maintain open but professional communication with staff, parents, and campers.
- Assist with enforcing all policies and procedures.
- Work closely with Leadership team to insure camper and staff safety in all activities.
- Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as much as possible.
- Act as a positive role model for campers, volunteers, and staff. Maintain a high level of communication and develop an excellent rapport with the leadership team, staff, volunteers, parents/families and campers.
- Be familiar with all emergency/crisis response procedures. Thoroughly understand camp emergency action plans and help implement procedures if/when necessary.
- Complete First Aid Forms and Incident Report Forms when applicable.

- Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
- Maintain a clean, professional, well-groomed appearance while on duty keeping in compliance with the Association and Camp Dress Code Policy at all times.
- Observe curfew and/or quite hours each night.
- Keep all relationships on a platonic basis during camp hours and camp season.

- Assist Supervisor with implementation of camp crisis management plan and/or emergency management procedures as required.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants at all times. Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries, maintain a safe environment, and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
- Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Assist Supervisor with implementation of camp crisis management plan and/or emergency management procedures as required.
- Appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with staff, campers, parents, volunteers and the public.
- Interact with campers, staff, parents, families, and the general public in a professional manner at all times.
- Aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Ensure complete confidentiality of sensitive information regarding campers and staff at all times.
- Carry out assignments and other duties as directed by supervisor.
Required Qualifications - High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children preferably in a resident camp setting.
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
- Current certification in Lifeguarding or equivalent.
- Current certification in WSI or equivalent.
- Prior supervision of a pool or waterfront setting.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Current certification in first aid and CPR/FPR AED.
- Ability to schedule and supervise staff.
- Ability to live on camp property for the duration of the camp employment period. Evenings and weekends are necessary. (Camp sessions run Sunday through Friday).
- Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work flexible hours which will include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.
- Ability to work long hours, in an outdoor/indoor setting, requiring regular physical activity such as walk extensively on uneven terrains in all types of weather.

- Ability to interact with campers, staff, parents, families, and the general public in a professional manner at all times.
